Each-way bet calculator
How this calculator works
An each-way bet is two separate bets of equal stake: one on the selection to win and one on the selection to be placed (finish within a certain number of positions). The total cost is double your unit stake.
The win part pays out only if the selection finishes first. The return is: win stake x win decimal cote.
The place part pays out if the selection finishes within the number of places paid. The place cote are calculated from the win cote: place cote = ((win cote - 1) x fraction) + 1. For a horse at decimal 8.00 with a 1/4 fraction, place cote = ((8.00 - 1) x 0.25) + 1 = 2.75.
Place fractions and number of places paid vary by race type and field size. Standard UK rules for horse racing: fields of 5-7 runners typically pay 1/4 on 2 places; 8+ runners pay 1/4 on 3 places; 16+ runners in handicaps pay 1/4 on 4 places; some big handicaps pay 1/5 on 5-6 places.
If the selection wins, both the win and place parts pay. If it finishes 2nd or 3rd (within the places), only the place part pays. If it finishes outside the paid places, both parts lose and you lose your entire double stake.
Each-way bets are particularly attractive for horses at large prices (generally over 8.00 decimal) because the place component can return profit even when the win part loses. For short-priced selections under 3.00, the place return rarely justifies the doubled stake.

Întrebări frecvente
How many places does a standard race pay?
It depends on the field size and race type. Fields of 5-7 runners typically pay 2 places; 8+ runners pay 3 places; 16+ runners in handicaps often pay 4 places. Your bookmaker's specific terms override these defaults.
What does the place fraction mean?
The place fraction reduces the win cote to calculate place cote. A 1/4 fraction on 9.00 win cote gives place cote of ((9-1) x 0.25) + 1 = 3.00. You receive this price on the place part if your horse is placed.
Is each-way betting good value?
Each-way bets offer good value for longer-priced horses in competitive fields. For short-priced favourites, the doubled stake is rarely justified by the small place return.
Can I place each-way bets in-play?
Most bookmakers, including 1win, restrict in-play each-way betting to specific events. Pre-race each-way piețe are always available for listed races.
What happens if a race is shortened by non-runners?
If the field drops below a threshold (e.g. from 8 to 5), the bookmaker may reduce the number of places paid or alter the fraction. Always check the updated terms before the race starts.
